This mind map summarises what Android flagship phones shipped with in 2024. The centre is the year and each branch is a hardware component: chip, camera, screen, battery and so on. Where a node shows two figures joined by β†—, the first is the lowest value found among the flagships counted and the second is the highest. A vertical bar lists alternatives that exist side by side. The map covers flagships announced in 2024, plus the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Dimensity 9300 phones announced in late 2023.

Four flagship chips on 4nm

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was the headline Android chip of the year. It uses a 4nm process and an eight-core 1+5+2 layout with a Cortex-X4 prime core at 3.3 GHz, or 3.39 GHz in the version made for Galaxy phones. Samsung's Exynos 2400 went into the Galaxy S24 and S24+ in some regions, with ten cores and an Xclipse 940 GPU. MediaTek's Dimensity 9300 dropped the small cores entirely and used four Cortex-X4 plus four Cortex-A720 cores; the 9300+ raised the prime clock to 3.4 GHz. Google's Tensor G4 powered the Pixel 9 family on a Samsung 4nm process. Hardware ray tracing appeared on Adreno 750, Immortalis-G720 and Xclipse 940.

Brighter screens, bigger batteries, faster charging

Rated peak brightness among the phones counted here ranged from 2500 nits to 5000 nits, and LTPO panels could drop to 1Hz while topping out at 120Hz. One gaming phone reached 165Hz. Slab screens ran from 6.2 inches to 6.82 inches, while the foldable inner screens in this map measured 7.6 inches and 8 inches.

Batteries ranged from 4000 mAh in the Galaxy S24 to 5600 mAh in the Honor Magic6 Pro, which used a silicon-carbon cell. Wired charging reached 120W on some Chinese models, while the Galaxy S24 stayed at 25W. Wireless charging went as high as 80W on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, and reverse charging stayed between 4.5W and 10W.

Cameras, memory and what went missing

Main sensors ran from 48 MP to 200 MP, and 1-inch-type sensors appeared on several Chinese flagships. Telephoto lenses varied widely: 2.5x on the Honor Magic6 Pro, a continuous 3.5x to 7.1x zoom on the Xperia 1 VI, and a 200 MP periscope on the vivo X100 Ultra.

RAM was mostly LPDDR5X from 8GB to 24GB, with LPDDR5T on one vivo X100 Pro configuration. UFS 4.0 was common, although the Pixel 9 family and the 128GB Galaxy S24 used UFS 3.1. Among the phones counted here, only the Xperia 1 VI kept a microSD slot, and only it and the ROG Phone 8 kept a 3.5 mm jack. Wi-Fi 7 was widespread, and Pixel 9 offered Satellite SOS in the US. Every phone counted here launched with Android 14.
